The number 108 is considered an auspicious, or sacred, number.  There are 108 energy lines converging at the heart, 108 marma points (vital life-force points) in the human body, and 108 beads on a traditional meditation mala necklace.  The distance from the Earth to the Sun is roughly 108 times the Sun’s diameter, and the distance from the Earth to the Moon is roughly 108 times the Moon’s diameter.  108 reduces to 9 (1 + 0 + 8 = 9), which represents completion, universal love, and spiritual awakening.

Practicing 108 sun salutations around the Winter Solstice (the shortest day and the longest night of the year) is a way to honor the return of light — a ritual of release, intention, and renewal.

Together, we will flow through 108 sun salutations (Surya Namaskar) in a warm room.  This moving meditation will build internal heat, clear stagnant energy, and unite our collective intentions.  This practice is open to all levels.  Elly will offer you plenty of modifications, encourage you to move at your own pace, and break the practice down into manageable, intentional sets.

After completing your sun salutation journey, you will melt into a deeply restorative soundbath savasana, letting the healing vibrations of crystal singing bowls wash over you to integrate your practice.  Afterward, stay to connect with fellow yogis over light refreshments as we celebrate the holiday season together.
