Humans of 105F
Long time 105F`er, Daryl Sneed, is super-cool, super-kind, super-talented & we`re super excited that he`s helping us level-up our 105F style game. #HumansOf105F
Pop by LP on Saturday, 10/21 for the debut of our 105F x SOUNDOFF PEACE, LOVE, GRATITUDE, SWEAT collection. We will be serving coffee & light snacks & a limited supply of PLGS merch will be available to purchase.✌️❤️🙏💦
Daryl walked into his first hot yoga class at LP in 2006 (taught by Conni). In the 17 years since becoming a 105F & Conni fan, he moved from mgmt. consulting to being Chief Talent Officer & Head of Talent/Culture for two healthcare companies, launched a women’s heritage-inspired fashion line, and co-founded the streetwear brand SOUNDOFF.
After the pandemic, Daryl hit the ‘life re-set’ button to focus on evaluating the market potential for SOUNDOFF. “The SOUNDOFF name & brand emerged from the intense ‘sounding-off’ that was occurring in 2016-17 because of the political climate. We saw the emergence of highly personalized emotional intensity, & words like ‘nasty’, become cultural icons in social media, public forums, & fashion."
Since turning his focus to SOUNDOFF in 2022, the brand has done a full-season collab with the Chicago Sky WNBA team, & just completed a retail renovation of their studio space in Edgewater (with lots of help from fellow 105F`er Kim L).
In a real-life telephone game, it was 105F’s Angie who ran into Daryl at a market this past spring. She then raised the ‘did you know’ flag to Kiley, who then passed the info on to new 105F owner, Diana. From there, a conversation was launched.
“Diana & I shared strong enthusiasm about 105F culture & amplifying the unique connectivity of the 105F community. As we poured through several designs, the idea of a 105F x SOUNDOFF collab emerged. I came away excited to have the opportunity to craft a design connecting 105F’s rich history with the excitement about what`s ahead. As we worked on shaping our design to capture what sets 105F apart from other workout facilities, 4 words summarized it all – Peace, Love, Gratitude & Sweat. The 105F PLGS graphic that we will debut on 10/21 infuses 105F`s unique culture into its own style.”

Always smiley South Loop yogi @kaori.wndr shares how she gets back into her body and brain after a long day of taking care of others. 🧘🏻♀️💕✌🏼#HumansOf105F
"I am a neuro-somatic psychotherapist and I use my body to witness and support fellow humans as they flush out their stuck memories and emotional or psychic inflammations. After a full day of sessions, the work can easily take me away from my sense of time or groundedness with the present world. A decade into this profession, I have not found a more effective practice and, more importantly, a solid community of teachers that can meet me where I`m at after this type of work and challenge me through class as I access MY deep release and land back into MY body. I often arrive at the studio with my amoeba-brain, barely making cohesive sentences. I walk out in a state of total rebirth... EVERY. SINGLE. TIME... without fail!
My first time at 105F was my first ever go at yoga! I had no idea it would literally be 105F in the yoga room despite the name! What was I thinking?! 105F led me to a hard pivot on my autopilot lifestyle. My entire first class was filled with, "This is NOT what I signed up for.... or is it?" and to my surprise, this question stuck. I returned to class to ask this very question for various aspects of my life. I didn`t always find the answers, but I would walk out with something more important.... physical and mental strengths, agility, and determination to get me through the uncertainty. There are countless more benefits to hot yoga. My current favorite is connecting with my joy as I discover the strange things my body can do or feel over time and the juicy fascia releases. I think most 105Fers would agree with this one: it prepares our hearts for a gooood night`s rest. My secret sauce: hot yoga before a massage makes for the finest experience, followed by the best bear-sleep of my life!"
Kaori has one (very wise!) piece of advice for new students...
"You can prepare as little or as much as you need to for class -- the experience will be exactly what it needs to be, just for you."

Honoring 50 years of love and happiness! Cheers to Isaac and Ava Stanley! #humansof105F 🤍
This remarkable couple, who have been a lovely and inspiring part of our 105Family for over a decade, are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary this month.
We asked them how their consistent yoga practice (they`ve been 6am South Loop regulars for the last 12 years!), their retreat adventures (they`ve vacationed with us in Costa Rica and Bali!), and Isaac`s Teacher Training experience (he`s a graduate of our 2022 26+2 Hot Yoga TT program!) has helped to boost their relationship.
"We believe that one of the most important aspects of relationship building and longevity is self-awareness and being comfortable with who you are at any moment in this human experience. Thoughtful, loving, and compassionate communication skills are like yoga -- something to work on and refine each day. 105F has helped us in all these aspects of personal growth and relationship building."
Isaac and Ava elaborated further on the value that yoga and 105F has added to their lives....
"The flexibility and core strength we have gained through our practice is bordering on miraculous. One of the most important aspects of yoga we have learned is that of awareness of where we are at any given moment with respect to breath, the physical body, and emotions. It all starts with the breath and regardless of the potential distractions in the mind or hot room, asking ourselves the question: Are you breathing?
Each time we practice, we take quiet time before class to figure out the physical limitations of our bodies and the adjustments we need to make during class. Last, yoga has taught us to know when to simply sit down or take time to rest without judgement."

The last couple of years have presented us all with unimaginable challenges. In this special #HumansOf105F feature, our student Ebon (left) shares his touching story about him & Harry (right) lifted by 105F through the ups & downs. ❤️
“2021 was a trying year for us Therwangers. We experienced personal loss (as did many) but also personal gains. Through everything, our membership in the 105F community has been a cornerstone of health, vibrancy, joy, acceptance, & growth that has encouraged us forward.
In the last few years, I’ve struggled with internal depression to the point that sometimes it can shut me down & make me less available than I understand myself to be.
Depression is an invisible ailment - one that can undermine the integrity of even the most thoughtful person. But with 105F we found that our practice, both as individuals & a couple, have brightened our daily lives & carried us through rough times. I can attest personally that Camel pose can indeed bring up deep emotions!
Here it is 2022! Harry has fully recovered from a scary health experience that required a heart procedure. That story is a beautiful one. We had come to yoga class but he was so low energy that he decided to sit out. He was going to wait for me in the lobby while I practiced. But at my insistence he called his doctor’s office.
Little did we know that he was destined that very day to go to the emergency room & they immediately decided to kept him overnight. In the meantime, I was in class doing the standing series. But teacher Stacy loved us through it, supporting me, assuring me that she would take care of my mat & towel, as I rushed to the emergency room where Harry was hooked up to monitors & tubes. My heart battled fear on top of depression at that time. Being a yogi made all of the difference. When I laid eyes on my husband, I feared. Then I breathed. Then I sent my tailbone down & my shoulders up. I really & truly did. All things I’ve learned through my practice.
The Therwanger family has found a dynamic & wonderful sense of place at 105F. I do know that when our personal chips were down, the 105F love was up. Which, we all know, is simply business as usual at 105F.”

Know any professional hula hoopers? You do now. Meet your classmate @aerialem and hear her share some balanced opinions about the benefits of a regular hot room practice! #humansof105f 🎪🧘♀️💥
"I’ve been coming to 105F on and off since 2016. I started practicing hot yoga to help with my job - circus performing. I’ve been performing hula hoops for 15 years and moving my body through the 26+2 postures in a nice and toasty room is the only thing I have found that truly helps to heal my injuries and gets me back to feeling 💯. The only time I don’t have back pain is when I am practicing hot yoga regularly! I first started practicing for the physical effects, and stayed for the mental! My anxiety is lower, I sleep better, I feel happier. Nothing like spending 60 or 90 minutes with myself sweaty and purple in the face, some days nailing every posture and some days struggling just to stay in the room, to feel pride and joy for this body of mine!
I learn something new from 105F`s positive and kind teachers every single class I take. They remind me to slow down and breathe. 105F, thank you for helping my back and shoulders feel like I am a kid again, and for creating such a peaceful and joyful space to sweat it out!"

Four decades on the radio. Two decades in the hot room. Long time Chicago DJ and all around great guy - Marty Lennartz - gives big props to 105F for helping to keep him energized and lifted during his recent shift from afternoons to mornings. #Humansof105F 🎧🎶🔥
“I was introduced to hot yoga 20 years ago when the gym I regularly practiced at was closed for a holiday party. I found the River North studio and decided to give it a try. A solid decision that ended up changing my workout life.
Before long I was practicing in the heat 4-5 days a week. I loved the 26 postures. I could do all of them and the in-room temperature made it feel like I was getting the best workout of my life. The heat was also an equalizer. We were all in it together, a great community of teachers and students. I made a lot of friends.
I was introduced to 105F by one of those teachers and when the River North studio closed I easily became a regular. I quickly and happily found my new home at 105F. The perfect place to continue my hot yoga practice. It turned out I knew many members of the 105Family already! Nancy (my partner) and I are so thrilled to be a part of the crew.
At 105F, we also found another life changing practice. Hot Pilates! Everything one needs for a long life is right there in 60 minutes. Cardio, strength, balance, focus, accomplishment and despite the intense exhaustion, the ability to recover and set your sights on the next class.
I love that 105F has a variety of teachers who bring their own personality into class and change up the sessions so it`s never boring. There is something new every time.
I’ve been trying to practice more yoga in the hot room this year. It’s a really good balance with pilates. And it’s just good for my balance in general. I recently started new hours for my job which get me up at 4am. Not sure I could’ve made the adjustment without 105F.
Advice for new students is to have patience. Don’t try to force anything. Let it come to you. Nobody does any of it perfectly. Just know, it’s really hard for everybody. And when things get tough, try to breathe through it. And if you ever hear me complaining, please remind me what I just said.”

Practicing 33 classes in his first 43 days at the studio while absolutely crushing our 20th Anniversary Challenge -- new yogi Daniel Marushka sure did keep it hot at 105F! Read on to hear why Daniel got hooked on hot yoga and hot pilates! 🔥🤗💯#HumansOf105F
"Playing volleyball at the highest level has put a lot of stress and strain on my body. Within the past two years, I`ve had both shoulders and one of my knees surgically repaired. After attending many physical therapy and other wellness program sessions, none were able to provide the healing and overall well being that I get from 105F. After just a little over a month of being part of the 105Family, I can already feel my whole structure mended. I`m very thankful for all the support and encouragement from the kind teachers -- while providing modifications and guidance -- pushing me to become a better version of myself. I`m excited to see where this journey will take me!"
